Special Events — 2013
The highly awaited National Reading Group Month Signature Event to be held in Nashville at the Nashville Public Library Downtown on Saturday, October 12 (program, 9–11 a.m.; book-signing, 11-11:30 a.m.) brings to center stage best-selling authors Jill McCorkle (Life After Life, Algonquin Books), Cathie Pelletier (*The One-Way Bridge, Sourcebooks Landmark) and John Milliken Thompson (Love and Lament, Other Press) as well as debut authors Suzanne Rindell (*The Other Typist, Amy Einhorn Books) and Margaret Wrinkle (*Wash, Atlantic Monthly Press). Nashville Public Radio WPLN All Things Considered host Nina Cardona will lead the panel-program. For a fifth year in a row, the "coffee with authors" is an official part of the Southern Festival of Books — A Celebration of the Written Word, and is co-sponsored by the Nashville Public Library and Parnassus Books*Nashville — An Independent Bookstore for Independent People.
Special thanks goes to WNBA-Nashville past president and NRGM local coordinators Lee Fairbend (community volunteer) and Mary McCarthy (Cokesbury), and NRGM committee members — Bebe Brechner (ProQuest), Sue Bredensteiner (Publication Management Group*Nashville), Nina Cardona (Nashville Public Radio WPLN), Kathleen Dietz (HarperCollins), Serenity Gerbman (Humanities Tennessee, Southern Festival of Books), Mary Grey James (Parnassus Books*Nashville), Stephanie Koehler (Nashville Public Library Foundation), Wendy Kurland (Homework Hotline), Mike Sanders (community volunteer), Kathy Schultenover (Parnassus Books*Nashville), Julie Schoerke (JKS Communications), Joanne Slaughter (community volunteer, freelance editor) — for their spunk and verve.
